Josep Bartomeu: It is Messi’s decision
Lionel Messi’s contract is due to expire after the World Cup 2018 in Russia. Barcelona, who already has extended with Neymar, is eager to extend with the Argentinean striker. Barcelona President Josep Bartomeu, however, will not guarantee an extension, but says it will be up to Lionel Messi himself.
In recent months, Barcelona has renewed contracts with several of their profiles including Neymar. The La Liga club is eager to extend with the Argentinean profile Lionel Messi, who’s contract is due to expire after the World Cup in 2018 in Russia. Barcelona President Josep will not guarantee Barcelona fans an extension with Lionel Messi, but says it is Lionel Messi’s decision.
-We want to start the negotiations with Messi within the next couple of months, Barcelona President Josep Bartomeu said.
-As for every other player it is Messi’s decision whether he wants to transfer to a new club. Right now, he has a contract until after the World Cup in Russia in 2018, and we are very happy with him. Very happy. He is by far, the best football player in the world, Josep Bartomeu said according to the Daily Mirror.
-We do not know what the future brings, but naturally we will always try and explain to him that he is in the best club in the world, that this is the best place for him to live, and that he is living the greatest experience in his life here with us, Bartomeu continued.
Lionel Messi joined Barcelona at the age of just 13, although he would wait a couple of years until he was enrolled in the Royal Spanish Football Federation in 2002 and was able to play games for his club. He joined Barcelona’s “Baby Dream Team”, Barcelona’s greatest ever youth team.

Lionel Messi has been part of Argentina’s national team since 2005. He has made an appearance in 114 matches and scored a total of 56 goals for his nation.
